1.Open a Revit project
2.Click “Insert” tab —> Link panel —> “Point Cloud”
3.Navigate to the point cloud file location. Set file type to .rcp or .rcs.
4.Select a positioning option e.g. Try “Auto - center to center.”
5.Click “Open” – The Point Cloud will automatically place itself
Once you’ve imported the Point Cloud, here are some suggested steps:
Go to Elevation view and align the Point Cloud with your Storey levels
Go to the Floor Plan view
Go to Floor Plan Properties —> Extents —> “View Range” —> “Edit…”
Set the View Range “Bottom” and “Cut plane” Offset to limit the Point Cloud to thinner slices
E.g., Set the Bottom Offset to 1600, and Cut Plane to 1800. This will only show points between 1600mm and 1800mm of the associated level.
This improves performance and allows different visualization – set higher cut planes for walls, lower cut planes for kitchen cabinetry, etc.
